I am currently utilizing a choice-based art classroom. This is a classroom structure where students are responsible for choosing their own art-making processes through choice of material and subject matter. As of right now, students do not have full access to ceramic or 3-dimensional projects due to lack of resources available. My younger students have a hard time using regular clay, but the air dry clay, or Model Magic, is much more manageable. Different colors and types of glazes are a valuable resource in ceramic arts because they encourage students to use their 2-dimensional painting skills in a 3-dimensional way. By exploring this new medium and technique, students will gain a significant understanding of the ceramic and glazing artworks. If I receive these materials, my students will be able to choose clay and glazes as a medium to work with, whenever they choose! Imagine the possibilities! The students will also be given the opportunity to take charge of their learning by being able to select their own materials. At the end of a ceramic project, each student will be able to create a plan and revise and edit that plan by being a problem solver. They will feel empowered the use their skills in other forms of art as well by seeing how the glazing process takes a ceramic project from average to extraordinary. The donations I receive for this project will improve my student’ understanding and use of different art mediums and materials. My hope is to inspire the next up and coming ceramic artist!
