A high school reading course is designed to help struggling readers become proficient readers. With that goal in mind comes many challenges. Many students have low confidence when it comes to their reading capabilities because they've been unsuccessful their entire academic career. It is imperative that I find ways to cultivate a healthy environment for them to learn. It is also important that I am intentional with my lessons and teaching strategies. Providing students with multiple ways to grasp a concept from small groups, independent learning, project based learning, and real life applications. Reading can be challenging but it can be fun as well. My job is to give a bit of both worlds to build confident readers.
