Every year, I say the same thing. "Rhythm is simple--like a pepperoni pizza." Students have thrived equating rhythmic concepts to pizza and pie. Students engage in a process where they "bake their pizza" and serve it up with rhythmic slices. It allows them to create it, see it, say it and retain the concepts for later use when they will be asked to read it. This has proven over and over again to be a powerful tool. Additionally, I am excited to invite students into class with a hopscotch carpet. They will "hop to the beat" and find their sit spot. This year is going to be super exciting with so much learning!
