The majority of my students are African-Americans who live in single-parent homes. Many students do not have support at home because their parents are working 2 jobs to make a living. We are a Title I school and the majority of students receive free and reduced lunch. Many students do not look forward to coming to school because we have an old building, the decor is outdated, and the furniture is old, written on, and unappealing to the eye. Students complain about the school's appearance and offer suggestions on how we can spruce up the classroom. Students would be more engaged if they were entering a class with nice rugs, computer tables, desks, and other decorations that made the classroom feel like they were at home and comfortable.
