Students are more engaged when they are able to converse freely with one another. The opportunity to think in unique ways with their peers will improve the spirit of collaboration in our classroom. Incorporating tables and ditching old style desks will encourage my students to practice effective interpersonal communication techniques. Bringing tables into my classroom will promote more inquiry-based, hands-on and collaborative learning, giving an easy way for students to work in small groups with their peers. It also benefits the teacher by providing an easier pathway for more open conversations either with whole groups or one-on-one. When walking into a classroom, one usually comes into contact with single desks where teachers have tried their best to find a way to arrange them in the most appropriate design. But, classroom desks seem to grow legs and move around the room by the end of the day. It’s difficult to keep a classroom in order. Tables cut down on clutter and create a learning environment that is safe and organized. More opportunities for discussions with each other and a new and improved look are just a couple of the positive effects that tables will bring to our classroom. Our learning will flourish in our new space!
