I am requesting large, cozy pillows and soft seat cushions to create comfortable spaces in my classroom for my Autistic and Emotionally Disturbed students to get comfortable to read. The class I teach is very challenging but also very warm and loving.
My students need love and support even though at times they are the hardest kids to love. I want to create an environment that works for them and can begin their life long love of learning and reading. Many times throughout the day, my students are screaming and throwing chairs or tables. This kind of environment is very hard for my other students to read and learn. I want to create spaces in the room where they can get comfortable and cozy to read and learn. I would like my students to be able to choose a seat or pillow and a space where they can learn at their best. Some of them get overstimulated very easily by the light and noise in the room and will often hide under the table where it is quieter and darker. I have a vision of creating spaces in the room that the children can choose that work for them and their learning.
