Almost every day, I have at least one student ask me when we can go to the library to pick out independent reading books. Because our building is small and our numbers are growing, there are often classes going on in our library; this makes it difficult to allow time for students to explore books. As a first year teacher, I have a limited variety of books in my classroom library, but this needs to be expanded. In order for students to continue to grow in their reading, they need to have access to high-interest books at their individual reading levels; this is the goal for this project. Especially with students coming from a Spanish-immersion background, it is imperative that we actively foster their English-reading skills.
