Help me fund a culturally diverse library for my culturally diverse classroom. Imagine being a child and moving to an entirely new country and an entirely new culture. Not only are you expected to learn an entirely new language, but you are expected to read the literature provided for you while doing so. It's no secret that the key to becoming a successful reader is to read. But what if the literature is non-relatable? Well, the solution just may be to find books that are created by culturally relatable authors and contain culturally relatable experiences within them. In my classroom, I try to incorporate rich text full of beautiful stories and relatable situations. With these books, the students will have such literature at their fingertips as I will use them throughout lessons and keep them available for book clubs or individual use.
