This year, my 4th through 6th grade students will continue to participate in book clubs. Children will pick a book to read with a small group of peers, and discuss, digest, and critique their novels with the guidance of a teacher. They loved this work last year, and made their way through all the sets of books I had! We need more titles to spark their interest and passion in reading. Most importantly, we need to stock our classroom's shelves with books that celebrate a diverse cast of characters. My students need to recognize themselves in the protagonists of the stories they read. They need to celebrate the achievements of real-life heroes of color. Your donation will help fund a library of texts that showcase the lives and adventures of characters from a variety of backgrounds.
