I teach the best students in the world. We are an urban school with a high percentage of free and reduced lunch. The majority of our students hope to be the first in their families to attend college and are the first to play in an orchestra! All of my students have challenges to overcome, what makes my orchestra students special is the drive they all have to succeed. Our school orchestra program has held on for 35 years, through times of adequate funding, years of NO funding and years of underfunding. The program has survived because of the dedication of our students and fundraising efforts. These resilient students are successful largely because of their own drive and desire to succeed. I teach the best students in the world, because they are making the best out of their situationsregardless of obstacles they might face.
