Academic rigor at school is vital for all students, especially for those who live in poverty. Our school day is packed with learning. Every minute counts. Balancing rigor with fun and the arts if vital to the healthy development of young children. I am committed to giving my students a chance to express themselves artistically each week. The requested supplies will be used during our weekly art lessons which are designed to compliment our social studies and science units. For example, during our rainforest unit, students will use water colors to paint tropical flowers and wildlife, and advance student' understandings of this extraordinary ecosystem. The drying rack will allow our works of art to cure in our classroom. (Presently, art work dries outside our classroom on the hallway floor and runs the risk of being stepped upon. )
