Having an engaging and choice oriented room environment is important for all learners but it is especially important for learners with special needs. Different students have different needs when it comes to being comfortable and engaged while working. My goal is to give my students options and empower them to make choices that lead to success. Providing students with options for seating differentiates seating supports learning in an environment where learning is differentiated. Some students may work well at traditional tables with chairs but some may need balance ball chairs to let off energy. Some may prefer to work on the floor or at a low table. It is important that we teach young students to look at options and make choices that are right for them.
