Many of my students don't have access to a wide variety of engaging texts, nor do they have the opportunity to access these outside of school. Currently, we are working solely with the texts provided by the school, but many of them are outdated and are no longer relevant to the students' interests. Having these new, incredible and rich mentor texts will help to inspire my students to not only expand their reading and writing, but they will also encourage them to look outside of their current surroundings in to the wonderful world around them. Mentor texts not only provide my students with examples of good writing and story telling, but they also inspire them to create their own. Literature is such a powerful tool to inspire children, and the kids that I teach need and deserve this inspiration more than anyone else I know.
