My students have had to abruptly switch to distance learning during this school year. Some of the students' families have experienced real hardship and cannot provide current technology resources for their children. I want to provide reliable devices that my students can use to access digital instruction whether we are learning online or in person. Because of strict guidelines, students are not allowed to share materials. In a normal year, my students would be working collaboratively and in small groups. This year they are working on more independent lessons and have to work in their seat much more often. Technology provides an opportunity to individualize work and engage students at their levels. In my classroom right now we have access to iPads one day a week. Students have limited time to use technological resources and no opportunity to practice typing because they can't practice on an iPad. I would love to provide an individual device that each student can use to do their best work every day. These Chromebooks would give students daily access to current methods of teaching and learning. We use many great programs to remediate and individualize instruction. I would also like my kids to be learning word processing skills and I have not been able to teach them this at all this year because they don't have keyboards. A set of reliable devices would absolutely change and improve student engagement and bring them into the 21st century!
