I teach kindergarten children in a severe handicapped special day class at a general education campus in California. They are kids with autism, orthopedic impairment, and speech and language delays. Many of them have little to no verbal communication. We teach them sign language as well as using pictures in communication binders to show what they want or need. We also use pictures on schedules so students know what the routine of the day is in order to decrease behavioral problems.
