Teaching K–1 students in a small-group special education resource classroom focuses on building foundational reading and writing skills through structured, multisensory instruction. Our room is a warm, low-distraction space with clearly labeled learning zones for whole-group lessons, targeted small groups, and 1:1 support, plus a calm corner for sensory breaks. Lessons are explicit, cumulative, and individualized to IEP goals, using modeled, guided, and independent writing with immediate feedback and frequent progress monitoring. With clear routines, visual supports, and positive behavior systems, my goal is to build confidence, independence, and measurable growth in reading and writing for each child—investments that will have lasting impact on their academic success.
