My scholars' academic needs are intense. Approximately 80% of my scholars enter 6th grade below grade level in reading, and about 50% of my scholars are more than two grade levels behind. Kindles offer the chance to create dynamic, engaging and diverse science instruction for my scholars. Our scientists are curious, creative and resourceful. We will utilize these Kindles to strengthen our science skills through interactive modeling on educational sites such as Khan Academy. We will also use them for enrichment in small group instruction, and to conduct research for argumentative essays. We will use our Kindles during small group rotations, so when scholars are not receiving intensive interventions from a teacher, they are receiving differentiated instruction tailored to their academic needs. This allows for exponential growth over the course of the year.
