I am an art teacher for kindergarten through 3rd grade. My students are general education and special education students. My school provides me with very limited supplies. Currently, I only have construction paper, glue, scissors & crayons to complete their art projects. With your help, my students will be able to channel their inner artist. The students that struggle in academic areas typically enjoy art and feel successful. Once they have art supplies, they will be able to create projects and express themselves through art. Art helps my students relax, refocus & take a break from the stress of life. Unfortunately, I do not have my own classroom and go from class to class every 45 minutes. In that 45 minutes, I have to quickly hand out supplies, teach a lesson, give children an opportunity to complete an art project and collect supplies to leave the classroom exactly the way I found it. Most students do not have their own glue, scissors or markers. Therefore, by having class sets of markers, scissors & glue, my students will be able to complete projects without waiting for a friend to share basic supplies. The construction paper supplied by my school is so old, it has faded. When my students are handed construction paper, they tend to question the color. The black construction paper looks gray. When students work is framed, it doesn't "pop" because the paper isn't true black. There is only so much that can be done with construction paper. With additional art supplies such as pipe cleaners, pom poms, coffee filters, wiggle eyes, designed paper, buttons & designed tape the sky will be the limit with what I can create with my students. I hope to create model neighborhoods, an ocean with sea creates and people from our history.
