Children love science and scientific projects. There are not many authentic opportunities to study science in the classroom. The first grade curriculum includes life cycles. We have posters and videos, but I really want the children to be involved in the scientific process. Children learn better with on-hand experience. They are excited and enthusiastic about being active participants in on-hand learning experiences. If I am able to receive the Biddy Farm, the students will be involved in monitoring the incubator temperature, turning the eggs, observing the eggs, collecting data about hatching and describe the life cycle of a chicken. There are 3 first grade classrooms at our school and I plan to teach this unit to all classes.
