If I had an interesting and inspiring classroom library, my students would be more excited and eager to read! They would have immediate access to a wide variety of independent reading books. Our school library is often closed to students because of standardized testing windows that interrupt the weekly visits to the library. A classroom library would eliminate the weeks that my students must go without books. Some of my students are fortunate enough to have parents or guardians who can buy them books and promote positive reading habits. The vast majority of my students however, lack this support or availability at home! Having a classroom library that inspires the love of reading, as well as shows my students how much I value their enjoyment for reading, is the key to student reading gains! My goal is for my students to see me making efforts to promote their literacy skills. This project of getting a new classroom library will help provide interesting books to the students in my classroom and encourage them to read more. All of the books that I have chosen for this project are from various familiar series, with subject matter in both fiction and nonfiction in order to draw my readers in. I want my students to become more confident readers. For this to happen, they need a classroom library that inspires them to read more!
