All of my students are diverse learners who are working on their social skills to better fit in. The story of Augie, a child who has overcome great obstacles based on his appearance to fit in, would be a great story for my students to read and reflect on. By giving my students the opportunity to experience this literary work, it is my hope that it will show them that all obstacles can be overcome. Perhaps my class will get a better understanding of how to overcome their own obstacles and teach them some lessons along the way. My students are also very interested in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and by adding them to our classroom library, it is my hope to promote more independent reading. If these books are able to be put into our library, I intend on creating an incentive program for students who complete each book in the series with a special prize to the first student to complete the series.
