I am requesting a class set of novels for our global read aloud project. I can teach my students how to read and how to understand what they read. We can analyze characters and plots and develop new vocabulary in our little classroom. What I want to do is give them a better understanding of the world around them. I want my students to understand that there are other children, just like them, sitting in a classroom in another part of the world reading the exact same book at the exact same time. With this project, the students will read "The Wild Robot" and complete comprehension and vocabulary activities to better understand the story. The twist with this project, is that they will also communicate with a classroom in another country through various ways to hold discussions of the book. My students will get the experience of learning another culture, connecting through various medias with other children their age, and making real connections to what they are learning in class.
