I teach one of 5 special education preschool classrooms at Bowman Elementary. I run a morning and afternoon session which teaches about 24 students each year. Many people are unaware that public education for special education students must be provided for students ages 3-21. My classroom services students with varying strengths and needs. Many of my students have simple language/articulation needs while others have limited mobility or cognitive impairments. In addition to these students, I also service students who have disabilities based on environmental impacts such as exposure to drugs/alcohol, abuse, or neglect. Early intervention is incredibly powerful. While I believe in early exposure to academics is powerful, as a teacher my classroom focus is on teaching students how to be socially responsible, respectful, and a little tenacious!
