My students need to be able to move about and wiggle in their seats so that they can feel comfortable and open to have group discussions and create interesting dialogue with their classmates. That's why I am asking for help with getting rid of "traditional", rigid classroom desks, in exchange for dry-erase collaborative tables, and "wiggle stools". I have always dreamed of having collaborative seating in my classroom so that students do not have to feel that they must sit rigidly in straight rows, never turning to talk to their classmates and have meaningful discussions. In my classroom, I welcome group work in a way that encourages all students, no matter ability level, to contribute to the discussion and feel that they can grasp any concept thrown at them. Classroom desks are not ideal for "group settings". I have tried many ways to turn and move desks to facilitate this environment but it never works out quite the way I had envisioned it. These tables and stools are a dream come true for me and my students! We are all so excited at the possibility of having new flexible seating for the upcoming school year!
