My students often complain that they are forced to sit in their chairs in every class. I asked my students how they could be more active in our science class and they responded that they should be able to stand while working. However, the desks we have are not conducive to students being able to work. With their backs hunched over, my students asked if they could have standing desks that would allow for them to stand more often. My junior scientists told me that these desks would allow them to get more exercise in because they would be standing and able to move around the standing desk. I asked them what having standing desks would mean to them and they responded that these desks would promote a healthier life style. They told me that sitting for a majority of the day is not good practice. Being able to stand and move around in class, while learning, would be the best for a healthier life! These materials would not only support my students in being more active in class, it will prompt my students to brainstorm other ways they can be active in all aspects of their lives.
