My special education students come to me in the Learning Center for 30 minutes a day for specialized reading instruction. I have 11 different groups with 2-5 students per group that range from kindergarten through sixth grade and run all day long. With that in mind, our school district recently adopted a brand new English Language Arts curriculum called Wonders. It is an excellent program with unlimited reading intervention materials. Unfortunately, because there is so much material, special education does not receive hard copies and all the materials are only accessible online.
My students need physical copies to use daily in order for me to best assist them and for them to be fully supported and successful in their general education classroom. I am requesting a printer and ink to print the curriculum, binders to hold the printed curriculum (to make a complete master book) for copies and future use, a label maker to label each binder and bin per item and grade, colored bins to sort the material for that specific week and group, and write on wipe off boards and markers to use as supplemental materials for the Wonders lessons. In addition, I asked for a sand timers and word tiles to go hand in hand with the Wonders Tier 2 Intervention: Phonics materials. These supplies will allow me to be able to print all the materials needed for my students, organize everything by grade level and ability, have the necessary supplemental materials to instruct successfully, and have my Learning Center running smoothly so that their 30 minutes of reading instruction time is utilized to it's fullest.
