My students love music and expressing themselves through movement. The fitness balls will help us continue to perform in our Fit Beats unit. During Fit Beats, the students get to dance, drum, and perform fitness exercises all in one class. The fitness balls act as a drum as we use rhythm sticks to beat to the music. As we drum, we start moving our body to the music which turns into a dance. We are able to connect our learning with the music teacher and her rhythm practice. It is a creative way to teach dance without calling it dance. The students explore their own creativity as they create their own routine. The amount of skills that the students gain are mixed in with the excitement of moving to the beat. The fitness balls can be used for multiple units. This equipment would be a valuable piece of our curriculum planning.
