The goal of my program is to give students the coping skills needed to deal with the impact of trauma. Giving students the materials and the space needed to de-escalate when frustrated with allow them to calm themselves and re-enter the classroom ready to learn. These materials will help my students develop a deeper awareness of their bodies and minds. By deepening this awareness I will be able to reach students who's lives have been impacted by trauma. Meditation pillows will be used when my students practice breathing and meditation exercises to help them manage their daily stress. The yoga mats will be used to help develop body awareness and concentration through the healthy movements. When my students do yoga and meditate in the classroom I see an increase in focus, concentration, awareness and self-control. Having these materials in the classroom would make the experience even more appealing and exciting for my students to practice, and is a great way to teach students to rely on their own bodies and coping skills to help them through the hard times.
