We are a first year contract (charter) school in a small mountain town. Our board has overcome many obstacles to make what many have said was "impossible", possible. We now have another, much needed, choice for our children's education in our town. As a first year school, our budget is extremely limited. We are dependent on generous donations and many teachers are provided supplies from their own pockets. As the music teacher, much has come from my personal finances, but ukulele's is just something I can not afford on my own. Incorporating an instrument, such as the ukulele, in our music classes will provide the students and opportunity to create and compose as well as build confidence and knowledge in various music elements. Students would be able to use their minds to create in a different way, without pens, pencils, crayons and paper; they will be creating with music! What an exciting and unique opportunity this would be for our students.
