Common Core has brought a new level of rigor to the classroom and to student learning. As we begin to implement this new curriculum, resources that use to work are no longer challenging enough. Because we don't have many options available, my school has been provided various passages that fit with the ELA standards. Day in, day out, the students are given boring, black and white, copied, passages to expose them to the rigor we are asking them to perform to. My students often struggle to see the illustrations, and looking at the same format has become stale to even the teachers. Students need access to Common Core aligned texts that are fun and engaging. These TIME magazines will do that! They are full of colorful pages, easy to follow text features, engaging topics, and will expose students to real life news and events. TIME magazines will allow me to integrate social studies into my ELA lessons!
