My classroom is based on the differentiated seating model. Students are offered non-traditional seating in an effort to make the uncomfortable task of sitting and listening much more suitable to their learning style. After their learning style analysis they are designated as visual, auditory, or tactile kinestetic. There are often combinations of both. Seating is based on their learning style including their desks being height proportionate to their seating. Some would rather be on the floor to learn! The yoga balls allow the body to be in constant motion. This allows students who are always moving to move without getting in trouble for moving. They also remain focused on the task. Other students do better with a disc if they only need to move in a swaying motion. The disks allow the student to do just that. Wouldn't it have been nice to choose your class seat and be able to wiggle? They learn so much better this way.
