"I don't know how anyone can learn Chinese..." I often hear parents say this to me. "Chinese is too hard... I can't learn Chinese," says another student. And then we use the iPads and Chromebooks to speak, write and listen to Mandarin. The technology opens their eyes and suddenly the language becomes doable. They are now Chinese linguists, capable of greatness. We open apps for writing characters, voice recorders to practice speaking, photo and video apps to make skits and commercials. The barrier to language learning breaks-down with the use of engaging technology. With our limited funding for technology, we need touch technology and computers with Chinese writing to help create and inspire my students to be global citizens.
