My students love to pretend and get creative. Each year, we put on a parent performance and I love having my students put on a play. If funded, these materials will be used by my students to create backdrops and costumes for our class play. The paper masks will be decorated with feathers, googly eyes, and pom-poms. They will use the paint and pastels to further outfit their mask, as well as paint backdrops to add to the play's setting. My students really love the agency creating the necessary materials for their play brings. They adore performing and gain confidence in their ability to create. All of the requested materials will be used directly by my students.
These materials will improve my students' lives by giving them a greater sense of ownership over their performance. For many of my students, school can be a struggle. Using theater arts helps them to become more confident as they discover their strengths in other areas. They develop perseverance as they work through the process of learning their lines, overcoming stage fright, and designing the look of the play- from costumes to sets. Theater is not something many of my students are exposed to at home, so the class play is also an opportunity for them to create experiences they wouldn't otherwise have. It is a memorable experience and becomes even more so when my students are given more control over their final product. Please help me in obtaining the resources my students need to make this one of their favorite school moments.
