The book I Am Malala connects with our final memoir unit; we plan to use this book to teach not only what a memoir is, but to also encourage students to share their own stories and reflect on their own identities. Students will learn about the structure of memoir writing as we read this book together. Additionally, students will learn from Malala's courage amidst hardship, strength amidst trials, and her influence to create change in the world around her. We will use these books to empower our students to think about their own stories as they begin to work on their own memoirs.
