This year my 4th grade students' reading/writing curriculum is very heavy on informational text. Students will be using different reading strategies to comprehend different types of informational texts. Additionally, they will be taught the respond to these texts and cite evidence in their writing. I would like to promote a love of literacy in my 4th grade class by having students participate in literature circles. Since a great percentage of their curriculum will be informational text, during their independent reading time, I'd like to expose my students to fiction text through book clubs and discussions. My idea is to have groups of 4 students reading different fiction books and having them interact with meaningful discussions about the text. After they have been reading the book for about 2 weeks, I'd like for them to present a review of the book to their classmates as to foster an interest in their book to their other classmates.
