My first graders are a group of excited, fun-loving, active readers, writers, mathematicians and scientists. They are hard workers who have learned to persevere through carefully planned lessons and activities that are based on their own interests. I am passionate about helping children learn in authentic and meaningful ways. I do that in my classroom by paying attention during conversations, conferencing with students and noticing the books that they like to read. I use what I know about each student as a person to engage them in the skills and concepts that must be taught in first grade. My students love to learn, but they also love their friends. We spend a lot of time purposefully, and intentionally building a classroom community where everyone's strengths are valued. We learn together, laugh together, share struggles together and most of all build memories that will last a lifetime together!
