Having a list of diverse scripts to choose from will motivate students into delivering successful performances. As of now, we do not have any scripts and my speech students are limited to only competing in original oratory and informative speeches, where they have to write their own. Writing your own ten minute speech is difficult for the novice students, so I would like for them to start with interpretation so that they can become comfortable with the aspects of speech. When they have multiple scripts to choose from, they can choose something that actually reflects who they are and what they are interested in as a person, which makes them more motivated to be successful. Students are more likely to do well with something they get to choose to do. My biggest goal with our demographics, is to encourage involvement; to make them independent and confident students. If they get to express themselves, it will move them in this direction.
