My students studied Robotics and excitedly asked for more time. They were engaged, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! Every time we have a team meeting, in person or virtually, they are challenged to meet a task and rise to the challenge. I want my students to have the opportunities to join a club after school that will give them the beginning steps to be able to participate in an excellent robotics competition. I believe through their hard work, ethics and desire to succeed they can learn how to use STEM to better their life and environment they live in. Outside from the implications of coding which looks good on a resume for later in their lives, coding actually boosts skills, which are actually useful to most jobs. Problem solving and logic are the main two. Learning to code is like an exercise for the brain. I want my students in the club to have a three-step process. First, ensure they are coding properly. Secondly, to learn about the parts that make a robot work. Thirdly, students will learn how to build and program them. In class the robots will provide the opportunity for the kids to learn the code language that every computer uses to communicate. We will work in small groups of 5 or 6 per table because we are collaborating and sharing. This helps them with the basic idea of coding and it also helps to build the self-esteem that they need as they develop projects and reach a certain goal. As they progress, they will be able to join a team and be able to practice socialization as they solve real life problems in their community.
