Sports at this school, are crucial for these young students - as not only a way to get into college, but also learn the value of competitiveness and sportsmanship. All team sports here are a true motivator to keep grades up. Students with grades lower than a 2.3 GPA cannot play sports. Sometimes sports are the only reason some of these students will ever considering graduating from high school. Our graduation rate is now over 85% - which is a huge improvement in the last 7 years. Since my tenure at the school - we went from a "D" grading to an "A". That said, while our school has a new building, and many technological upgrades, the Athletic Department is struggling - and while football and basketball are generally the sports that receive the majority of support at our school - baseball receives virtually nothing. In the four years I have been a coach - the Athletic Department has provided a great trainer for our home games, bus service to and from away games, and a home field that would make any parent or real baseball player cringe at the sight up. We have zero support to get mandatory equipment, and we truly need your help in order to keep our program afloat. We are only looking for a few small items (of course we'd love a nicer field and facilities) - but they go a long way. Specifically, new catcher's gear and a single batting tee. Your help would not just be a baseball donation, but a motivator in these young men's life as they move forward in life on and off the field in a positive direction. Thank you!
