When you give students a choice, they feel empowered. Having flex seating in the classroom enables students to choose how they sit and which works best for them. It also allows them to move quickly if their surroundings are inhibiting their learning. Physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. Research has shown that simple activities in the classroom can boost academic performance. Studies also show that children who are allowed short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior. Flexible seating allows students to move quickly and easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class. There are no large desks to move, allowing more time for engaging instruction.
