I'm now able to display new books directly on our whiteboard, which has definitely increased the number of students picking up new reads. Before, books would often fall off or get lost behind other titles. Now, I can display twice as many at once, and students immediately notice when something new appears. It has also been a great way to highlight student book recommendations so they can see how their suggestions are helping grow our classroom library.\r\n\r\nThe clear hanging folder tabs helped me finish labeling my documentation tub, so student work artifacts, rubrics, and important papers stay organized and easy to locate. Having those labels in place has made it so much easier to keep track of student work throughout the year. The new \"It Can't Be, It's...\" game fits right in with the creativity and thinking exercises we already do in class and is such a great extension of those activities.\r\n\r\nSo believe me when I say, these simple materials have helped make our classroom a little more organized, a little more creative, and a little more inviting for my learners. Thank you again for helping support the work my students and I do every day.","fullyFundedDate":1763825798234,"projectUrl":"project/think-tidy-and-thrive/9725984/","projectTitle":"Think, Tidy, and Thrive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Street","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6528196_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1562662713893","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6528196"},{"teacherId":6528196,"projectId":9257410,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students will begin to step into the exciting world of podcasting and audio storytelling. Many of my gifted students are natural thinkers and storytellers, and this project will give them a meaningful platform to share their ideas and perspectives in a new way.\r\n\r\nOver the coming weeks, students will begin learning how to use the microphones and recording equipment that make clear audio possible. We plan to start with shorter recordings such as weekly reflections and student-created public service announcements. These early recordings will help students practice organizing their thoughts, speaking clearly, and thinking about how their words reach an audience.\r\n\r\nAs students grow more comfortable with the equipment, the goal is to expand into larger projects. One idea is for fifth-grade students to create a farewell podcast where they can share advice for younger students, reflect on their elementary experiences, and include thank-you messages to teachers who have helped shape their journey.\r\n\r\nEven before our first full episode airs, the excitement around this project will spark conversations about storytelling, communication, and how ideas can travel beyond the walls of our classroom. I truly appreciate your support, as it will allow my students to see that their voices matter and that their stories are worth sharing. I'm able to do this without having 1) reach out to parents for help and 2) try to purchase items myself. \r\n\r\nMy students instantly noted that I was \"stacking up\" when they saw the supplies. I've been able to print assignments without worry about running out due to the limited supply of paper we're given. I've been able to provide pencils daily to students. We've been able to keep our desks cleaned with the clorox wipes. The headphones allows my students to listen to online assignments without disturbing others. \r\n\r\nEverthing purchased has been such a blessing. My heart overflows with gratitude. As we move forward, I hope to be able to give students a chance to do a math or science project to help with their understanding & a chance for them to earn extra credit. What stood out most was not just their excitement about new games and materials, but how quickly they shifted into strategic thinking. During our first Think Tank Thursday using the Shut the Box game, students began discussing which number combinations were smartest to eliminate and explaining their mental math strategies to each other. What began as a game quickly turned into rich mathematical reasoning. Students who typically solve problems independently were suddenly verbalizing their thinking and refining it based on their classmates' feedback.\r\n\r\nThe Rough Shapes game has easily become a favorite. It has taken the place of some of our Divergent Doodles warm-ups while still stretching creativity in meaningful ways. Students must analyze abstract shapes, visualize possibilities, and draw their interpretations. With the sturdier dry-erase markers, they can test ideas and revise quickly without the frustration of broken or dried-out supplies. I have also laminated the blank hexagon cards, making them reusable and versatile. Because they are dry-erase, students can improve or build upon their ideas rather than settling for their initial brainstorming ideas or using up materials.\r\n\r\nOverall, the impact of your generosity and this project has been both academic and engaging. Students are practicing fluency, spatial reasoning, communication, and creativity in ways that feel purposeful rather than performative. Your support has helped establish a sustainable system that will continue to challenge learners year after year. I appreciate how these guides reinforce the strategies students learn in their regular math classes and give me a better view into their thinking, so I can support them better.\r\n\r\nStudents enjoy being able to show their work clearly, correct their thinking, and try again without the frustration that often comes with paper and pencil. These materials are easy for students to access and use independently, which helps build confidence and keeps them actively involved in their learning.\r\n\r\nMy fourth-grade students, in particular, have really taken to the dry-erase tools. The mix of digital and hands-on challenges has given them a fresh way to apply teamwork, logic, and perseverance.\r\n\r\nMy students' favorite part about Breakout EDU so far has been the \"Lock of the Day\" challenges. My fifth graders have a healthy dose of competition, so they are always eager to see who can unlock the puzzle first. These journals have become an essential part of our daily routine alongside our Paragraph of the Week journals, giving students a structured space to reflect and recognize patterns in their own learning.\r\n\r\nAlready, I'm seeing students apply growth mindset strategies beyond the journal. One of my younger students, who used to become aggressively frustrated when facing a challenge like a Sudoku puzzle, paused, reminded himself, \"I need a growth mindset,\" took a short break, and then returned to finish the task with confidence. Even parents have noticed the change: one shared that their child reminded them to try a growth mindset after overhearing a self-doubting comment at home!\r\n\r\nI also see less frustration, stronger self-monitoring, and more persistence among my students, especially those who tend to be perfectionists. By using growth mindset language intentionally when introducing assignments, students are learning to approach challenges as opportunities, rather than obstacles.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students tools to build resilience, develop self-awareness, and take ownership of their learning. They walk in, sit down, and get started right away. I've noticed their confidence in writing grow, thanks to how each phase is chunked so well. Instead of the avoidance or complaints I've heard in the past, students are leaning in. This week, they're even excited to record and share their first narrative of the year with classmates!\r\n\r\nI'm also seeing stronger stamina and less hesitation overall. Students are using richer transition phrases and writing more sentences in assignments beyond the journals, which shows me the transfer of skills is happening.\r\n\r\nOne moment that has stood out to me was with a third grader who used to shut down at the thought of writing. Now, he completes the journal with no issues and even proudly shared a paragraph about himself last week. That kind of shift is exactly why I'm so glad and thankful we're able to use these!\r\n\r\nI am especially grateful because these journals are helping me address an issue I noticed in my students' data last year. I knew they needed a more consistent writing routine, and this resource has been the perfect solution. I can already see how they're making a difference.
