We are a Kindergarten class at a growing charter school in California. Our students come from a diverse population and have a number of challenges facing them in their daily lives. One of my students has a visual impairment and at times needs extra support which is often difficult to provide given our class size. Many students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch, this after having to walk a mile to school or take public transportation. They are the most appreciative bunch of kiddos who would love your support! We talk about being "centered" in our classroom as a way of teaching the students to be calm, attentive, and respectful during the 'learning' portion of their day. Each and every child in my classroom is learning to become a respectful and responsible member of a larger community, and this Centers project will allow them to practice working collaboratively throughout the year in a centered way.
