Music is the only language that everyone can understand. The backgrounds of the club members is diverse, but music has broken through the cultural barriers and has allowed them to connect. My students need 2 acoustic guitars, 1 acoustic bass guitar, an ukulele, a cajon, an acoustic amp, a microphone and stand, and cables to be able to participate in The Unplugged Club. Last year, two students that didn't know how to play the guitar developed into intermediate guitarists and performed in front of crowds by the end of the school year. Also, a young lady who was very shy, broke out of her shell after singing in front of a crowd. These are some concrete examples of how music has positively changed the lives of the students in the Unplugged Club. The members of the Unplugged Club have developed skills in socializing, leadership, teaching, public speaking, community service, and so much more. The students will benefit from the instruments acquired in this project for many years to come.
