Crestwood's music room is bustling with song, dance and discovery. One of the units my students anticipate most is our guitar unit. They wait anxiously to be 4th graders so they can play these awesome instruments. All of the 4th and 5th grade students learn to play guitar in general music class and our guitars are showing their wear. Many are coming unglued and we don't have the funds to replace more than one per year. This would guarantee our awesome guitar skills will never suffer due to lack of instruments. For many of my students, school music is their only opportunity to have hands-on musical experiences with guitars, so this is exceptionally powerful and memorable. Students get to work in groups and learn songs they love from the radio or favorite artist. We even have special guest guitar players join us to show off our skills!
