My students crave colorful, engaging images to activate prior knowledge and build background. A color printer would enable me to print pictures, photos, and articles or books related to each student's grade level studies and individual reading level. Finding ready-made visuals and reading material for English Language Learners specific to our Virginia Standards of Learning curriculum is challenging. Having a color printer would allow me to customize materials for each child's unique needs. By providing colorful visuals, my ESL students will be able to interact with their grade level content on a more meaningful level. Students will build their vocabulary while using the pictures to discuss the content with their classmates. My students will also be able enhance their understanding of the material by reading texts on a level appropriate for their English language proficiency. Additionally, I will be able to produce colorful sets of reusable flashcards for my kindergarten students to practice letters, letter sounds, sight words, rhyming words, number recognition, etc. I would be able to print photos of different settings to stimulate both conversation and prompt writing. The educational benefits of having a color printer for my ESL students are endless.
