We are seeking to address the needs of students that exhibit behaviors related to sensory processing disorders and autism spectrum disorders as well as the sensory overload (fidgety, inattentive, disruptive, chaotic, touchy behaviors) often experienced by students with social-emotional dysregulation. We hope to provide an appropriate release and allow students to receive sensory input in a safe, secure and monitored area. In addition, we would like to utilize this as a physical movement break in order to provide a sense of calm and organization to the body and brain. We are hopeful that this will increase and expand communication and language skills in students with sensory processing disorders, autism spectrum disorders and/or emotional dysregulation. We feel that the outcomes and benefits will include: Increased student focus and attention Improved student emotional regulation Improved student behavior within the classroom Increased student learning and ability to access the curriculum Increased overall student, staff and school safety In order to achieve these goals, we are looking to build the foundation of the room through the purchase of mats, a trampoline and light coverings.
