My students would really benefit from a variety of art supplies in my reading classroom. Why? Studies have shown that incorporating the arts into reading class improves students' analytical skills and provides engaging, high-quality content students love, while mastering a wide range of key ELA skills they will need to reach their reading goals. Therefore, my goal is for students to create an exhibit about their favorite piece of literature, short story, or non-fiction piece that we have read during the school year. I would like the canvas paper, paint, and brushes so that students can recreate their favorite scenes. I would like the mats and foam core to frame their work so they can be exhibited, and the self-adhesive mounting board and trimmer so that students can create labels for their work (and use the trimmer to cut them to size) just like in a real museum. It would be the perfect way to show students that reading can be brought to life through their drawings and/or paintings on paper. Please support my students! We need tons of art supplies to help us do accomplish our goal. Students who participate in arts learning experiences often improve their achievement in other realms of learning and life. Studies have shown that students with high arts involvement performed better on standardized achievement tests than students with low arts involvement. Help us reach our goals by giving us the materials we need to display and be proud of our work.
