Having a library and sensory supplies will invaluably change the lives and academic careers for my students. Kindergarten is the starting point for the reading and writing success of every students future. Given the diverse range of disabilities in my classroom my students need a variety of books to teach and reach them on their own levels. The books in this project are aligned with both kindergarten and first grade milestones to provide fun and interesting experiences for my students to learn at the same level as their general education peers. The supplies in this project will provide the appropriate sensory breaks my students need to be able to enjoy the English Language arts instruction from the books that will fill our new library! The needs of students with low functioning autism sometimes require deep pressure from the cozy boat or brushing massages from a therapy brush to even be able to sit in their seats more the less focus on instruction. The other fidget and sensory toys in this project are designed to provide students with ADHD the ability to sit and focus on the stories being read. Not only will students excel in standards based instruction in ELA but they will also work on life skills such as sharing and group reading with the multiple copies of books in this project. The books such as 'A Bad Case of Stripes' and 'Stand Tall Molly Lou Lemon' are centered on acceptance. This project can be used both inside and outside of my classroom for my students' general education peers to educate them not only about reading skills but also about inclusion and disabilities. Please help my students have a functional library, and sensory supplies that will allow them to say aloha to learning about English language arts.
