I’d like my AVID classroom to function as a kind of office for AVID students. A scanner allows students to scan documents for college. Refugee students are often selected by colleges to send additional documents, yet parents are unable to help with this. Many of my students have the primary responsibility for handling college, financial, and scholarship documents. All of my students can become proficient in scanning their own documents. I encourage my students to take classroom roles and develop hands-on skills. Since we share college information and study ideas with the entire school, AVID students are continually creating posters and fliers, recording speakers, and corresponding with our College Counselor. A designated camera with video capabilities will help students record and share the information gained in the classroom. Last year, we contributed videos of our classroom speakers, college students and instructors, financial aid professionals, bankers, and career-specific speakers—to our school’s orientation program, and we’d like to store pictures and videos carefully. We plan to work extensively with the College and Career Center here on campus to help share AVID information with our entire student body.
