This is a school wide self-portrait project. The students will draw shoulders up portrait then find a color that they feel matches their skin through- think, pair, share- and give it a creative name. In addition, they will paint themselves and the background with their skin tone and label their color pallet name when finished across the bottom. The acrylic paint on canvas boards will look professional, help them mix their skin tones, and tape strong enough to keep them up for public display. We are building a united school family showing the beauty that is not a stereotyping our race with straight white, black, yellow, red colors but the collective beauty of our skin! We will stand united in the beauty of the diverse pallets. Further, we learn about each other as we share our thoughts on our creative skin colors we chose with hopes of finding a commonality in our school family tree! The students were in awe how powerful the portraits looked with the many different skin tones from Angelica Dass's, 'The beauty of the skin in many colors' video portraying portraits for all to see in public spaces! Let us take this step on our quest toward education and finding love with peace on our journey in life!
